Excellent! I wonder if there's a story in there? "Rhubarbhead refugees!" About their efforts to escape their roots?

Hey, everyone.
Another one here from kboards; another one frustrated with the over-moderation there, especially with the threads that get locked just when they are becoming interesting.
I recognise a lot of names/faces so this already feels like a night down the local.
I'm a writer of mainly science fiction, fantasy and horror, and, since parting company with the small press I was with in March, a full-on self-publisher. I never seem to find as much time as I'd like to mooch about on forums but will pop in as often as I can.

And prior to that I was indie.

I've been indie publishing since 2015. Lurking in writing boards for several years before that. Still trying to figure things out. LOL, I finally admitted this year that my first three series were not WTM, and I'm okay with that. But my next three will be.
I saw this on Kboards, and while I am not giving up entirely on Kboards, I think we've hit a point in indie land where not only do buyers of services need to beware, we need to be public with our experiences. I am, as I have said elsewhere, disappointed on the stifled discussion of some of the things going on in our world right now.
I write romance, and PNR, and UF. All the worst cats for scammers, stuffers, and cheaters, LOL. But they are my fave things to read, so that's what I write.

Nice to meet you, Dr. Dastardly. And I hear you about writing in genres and subgenres that are overrun by stuffers, scammers and miscategorizers.

Time for my intro post. My name is Cate Dean, and I've been publishing since early 2011. Where did the time go?! I've written in several genres - time travel romance, paranormal/urban fantasy, YA, mystery, and straight up fantasy. Now that I have a few years under my belt, I am narrowing my brand, and going back to my love of fantasy, both YA and adult. Mine tend to cross over, with both teen and adult MCs in the same series. I'm catethewriter at Kboards, though I've been a serious lurker there for years now. Drama is not my jam, but I do like to keep up with what's happening, so I can avoid the people in the middle of the latest drama. I've been writing since I was 7, and it's part of who I am. I can't imagine doing anything else for a living.

Hello: I'm hiding behind this beaker persona because when I put my books in my signature on KBoards, my book pages were attacked. It always sounds crazy until it happens to you. I'd like to introduce myself without mentioning this, but I can't because it's there like the elephant in the room that won't go away. Now I've talked about it. Maybe I can move on.

We're interested and want to know everything about you that you wish to share!

Totally understand. I have observed some very vindictive piling-on behavior over extremely trivial matters on Kboards. There are a few there who will make you suffer if they can.

Thanks people who commented on my post. What happened to me was someone on KBoards insulted something unique on one of my book pages. Then I checked the page about 15 minutes later, and all my negative reviews had been voted up, and all of the positive ones had been voted down. I knew it had happened in the last half hour because I had a promo that day, and I was checking my book pages a lot. I checked the other books, and the same thing had been done. Before that, those reviews had been there for four years without anyone voting on them, so it was quite a coincidence. Then I heard about this same thing happening to other people on KBoards and even David Graham (I think or one of those big name people on KBoards). This is a way people can harm you without leaving their name like with a review. Normally, you wouldn't know who did it, but I'm mostly sure I know since this person insulted something on my book page minutes before it happened. Anyway, I can't understand how someone who actively pushes their books for sale on KBoards wouldn't be worried about doing that because I think a lot of people would do the same thing back or something similar. Maybe they thought I wouldn't figure out who did it, and it sounds like a lot of the people who post about book attacks happening don't know who it was. In any case, that person is safe from me. That's something I would never ever do no matter what. Also, I realize there's a one in a million chance it was someone else. I said I wasn't going to keep talking about this, but I keep feeling the need to do that anyway. Thanks for listening, and thanks Administress for making this forum where I feel comfortable to talk about it.

Thanks captaincranky. I don't know if my promo was affected or not. I had three days free with Book Barbarian, Robin Reads, and Freebooksy, and I got 4500 downloads, ROI, and a tail that was good (by my standards) for almost a month. But I felt terrible at the time, and it still bothered me for a long time. I'm actually finally feeling better about it today after writing about it

Howdy, everyone. I'm Joe. I've been indie publishing since March 2011 and have a handful of books out (okay, maybe a couple handfuls ). I write mostly sci-fi and fantasy. Some of you I recognize from KBoards, back when I was a regular there. It's been years. I've become something of an online hermit, except for my blog. Life is so much better without Facebook and Twitter. There are benefits to being part of an online community, though, especially in a field like writing and publishing. Saw this forum, thought I'd stick my head in and check it out. We'll see how it goes.

Welcome @lynn and @joevasicek our newest and most trepidatious members. Thanks for giving us a chance. Writing communities are great, but they can suck if you don't get along with the other members or you don't gel with the culture. I hope you'll both end up liking us and wanting to stay, but if not, thank you for your consideration.

I also stay away from Facebook and Twitter and agree that life is so much better for me without them, for a variety of reasons. But I find my writing life just a little too quiet without a community to participate in. LOL, yes! I question the usefulness of platforms where I have to block/mute 95% of the users to stay sane.

Hi, everyone. I'm Trafalgar, aka Lynda - and, yes, I'm on KBoards, too.
I'm British and started self-publishing in 2011 with a MG fantasy that few people bothered with. Since then I've switched to my real love, writing old-fashioned British whodunits in a contemporary setting. (I adore Agatha Christie!) I'm hoping to publish the 9th novel in my main series later this month - if my beta reader ever gets back to me, that is.
I've reached the age where most of my time is spent forgetting what I was doing. I enjoy good food and wine - Merlot for preference, but buy me a bottle of Beaune and we'll be friends for life.
As I also belong to another Pro-boards writers' forum, I may not be here too often, but I'll try to pop in - as and when I remember.

Hey, y'all. Just thought I'd go ahead and sign up and see what's what. For those who don't know me from kboards, I write science fiction. I like splattering guts across bulkheads in zero gravity. Then again, who doesn't like stuff like that, right?
I fully intend to publish some fantasy some day, but that day's not on the horizon just yet.
Anyway, here I am. Cheers.

I was a member of another forum some odd years ago and I think I know who you are, but since you haven't been more specific and I'm also using a different name here, I guess I'll just say that if you're who I think you are, it's nice to see you again! Is this a veritable mystery, or what? Lol! A Veritable mystery, indeed.

Hi, I'm Andrea. I first tried self-publishing NA novels in a few years ago, but my stories didn't meet genre expectations, so reception was lukewarm. I thought of NA more as a coming of age genre than a romance genre, but I got good feedback on the quality of my writing, so I've been meaning to give it another go. Life got in the way, and I'm realizing that if I want to give self-publishing another try, I need to go ahead and do it.
I've been mostly lurking on kboards for years and have spent the past few months studying up on how Kindle Unlimited has changed things. I heard about this forum over there; I like the board but it looks like they're struggling with finding that balance between encouraging conversation without things getting out of hand. As a consequence, I don't know what people are talking about half the time! I'm looking forward to learning more about self-publishing here.

Feel free to dive right in, start a thread, reply to someone else's thread, or just lurk. Lurkers, like bow ties are cool! But if you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask, or be afraid of posting in the wrong place, etc. You can post anything you want, anywhere you want. The board areas are guidelines more than hard and fast rules. We aren't large enough to attract the huge conflicts of Kboards yet, so things here are pretty calm and much more laid back. Thank you for giving us a chance, and hope to see you around.

I'm Robert Collins. I write science fiction & fantasy. I also read science fiction & fantasy (more fantasy than SF, I've recently noticed). I'm hoping to move into a tiny house one day.

What's your favorite aspect of fantasy, and which subgenre, do you enjoy the most? Thanks! I tend to prefer lighter fantasy over any other, but I'm open to reading any sort of fantasy or SF. I tend to check what friends & people I'm following on Goodreads rate 4 or 5 stars, and read the blurb and any friend reviews. About the only kind I won't read is anything dark.
