Yesterday I finished the novel I'd been working on since the year started. It ended up being 110K words. It's the second book in a trilogy. The first book was the one that came in at 115K words. I'm hoping that the third book will also end up over 100K. Today I've been editing future releases. I'll do that more tomorrow and Saturday. My plan is to start on book three Monday.

I'm chugging along on the Epic SF Novel That Never Ends. There's some hope now that it will actually come to a conclusion. Maybe not much hope, but some.
I had a good run for a few months last year, wrote most days, got some great word counts (doubled the size of the above named book). Then I got discouraged by the usual "if you don't write to market you'll never be successful" crap and boom. Back to hardly writing at all. Somebody should really tell all those successful authors who don't "write to market" that they're wasting their time. They might listen, if they stop counting their money.

Been writing on book 3 this month. Did miss some days to sinus troubles, but I made up for them. Right now the book is at 61K words. I’m a little shy of 2/3 through, so I think it’ll hit 100K like the other two.

Good going robertlcollins. Sorry to hear about your sinus troubles. 61k is nothing to sneeze at and 100k is amazing. How in the world do you manage to edit a book so long? Are you a very clean drafter?

Thanks! Interesting that you should ask that, K'Sennia Visitor. I decided to edit all my upcoming releases along with writing. I wanted to have that done so I wouldn't lose writing time when it came time to release books. Even after all these years, glitches can crop up when it comes time to upload. I found plenty of things to fix, but I think there weren't quite as many in some of them as there have been in my past releases. Turning on spellcheck seems to have improved my writing, so far as clean copy goes. I'm also starting to wonder, as I read more of Dean Wesley Smith's blogs, if part of that is just keeping at writing. It's not just that the more you write the better your art might get, but also the better you can get at the craft of writing. As far as editing goes, I believe having distance from the work helps. I know that if I haven't looked at a work in the months or years since I wrote it, it'll seem almost fresh. That will make any errors stand out. I think it's the idea of "write the next thing." Once you move on your brain no longer thinks about what you just finished. When you come back to it after writing a work or two, you're better able to see it with new eyes. Well, that's what works for me. I'd say give it a try and see if it works for you.

It doesn't. (shakes head) The more time progresses the least-connected I get, the harder it becomes. I think if I ever attempt another novel I shall pre-plan up the wazoo and edit as I go.
Right now I'm working on my magic system.

Finished the novel I’ve been working on (book 3 of the trilogy). Came to 106K words. Taking a few days break before the next project. Fantastic job!!!!!!!!!!! And wow 106,00 words is amazing!!!!!!! That is a lot of words!!!!!!! Take a break, you definitely deserve it. I decided I was going to write a murder mystery and I have been working on it every day for an entire week, which is not how I usually roll, so I'm pretty proud of myself. I am pantsing a detailed outline, haven't gotten to how it ends yet. I had an ending on an earlier draft but it was too simple and easy to guess. I just hit 29,000 words. Am trying to make it as long as possible, so we'll see where I end up.

I have 35 published books including paperbacks. I just went through and copy/pasted the product details for each book I have on amazon and D2D. And now I am exhausted. Hate organizing stuff like that, but I did discover that I sold/got a borrow on my disabled frog book on Scribd. I haven't sold any on amazon yet, so that makes me happy. If I sell one copy of a book then I don't consider that book a failure. Just one more reason to love D2D. I've sold about 107 books there total, and some of them are books that don't sell on amazon at all.
Before that I finished my second outline draft and now know who did it and why and got the crime solved. Hurraaaaaaays for that!!!!!!!!!!
Now I'm gonna go veg for the rest of the night. And maybe start on draft 3, a little before bed, or maybe I'll put that off till tomorrow after shopping.

Today, I am finally ready to get back to work on my mystery.
I am adding the 40,000 words I have so far into ywriter to help me organize it better, since it's already becoming unwieldy in the word doc.

That's doing well. Didn't know you used ywriter. I was just trying it out. It's a nifty little program. I'm still stalled though. I lost my mojo and momentum for it, so I'm playing around with PNR for a bit.

I always switch projects when I stall properly; though not when I'm just finding it hard to get going again.

I'm not doing too great concerning brainstorming. The issue is I have a great idea but every time I try to do the outline and I've figured out the plot, I get a block. I've tweaked the plot about three times and just couldn't get through the outline so I stepped away and a better idea came through. It's still the same plot but another tweak and I think this one will fit. Other than that, I just submitted an upcoming release for pre-order on all the retailers except Amazon. Gotta wait because the book comes out in September and it's still too early to put up on KDP yet. Man, I wish Amazon would get with the times and let indies put pre-orders up more than 90 days before the date!

So big and great that it's impossible to have normal things like the rest of the retailers/countries.

I am working on a non-fiction business course which I'll publish in book format on amazon and D2D and then upsell email coaching from my website. It has 14 modules, so far in the outline. 11,932 words so far. I wanted to do it as an actual course, but I'd need a partner who was willing to be on video for that. No one wants to see or hear me, so a book it is!

Today I am back to TMOK. Not writing or even world building yet. Today is a mass copy document removal day while I listen to my writing music.
I first started creating TMOK back in 2008, it started out as a vehicle for xtian propoganda, but came and improved with me as I went through my metamorphosis. I pantsed a 19,000 word novella on my blog on sff world and then made the mistake of publishing it in 2014. It has since been unpublished and republished many times since due to my horribly mixed-up brain.
In like 2015, I took some scenes from the same universe and turned them into a short story which I also published, which has received the same treatment. Neither has sold, which is good, because they are both early bastardizations of my true vision. I was trying to write g-rated things that my family would approve of and both times put very little thought into them other than panic.
One has sold 9 copies and the other has sold 4. The itty bitty sales are good for me if I ever manage to follow through and remake them into the stories they should be. Right now they're both still published as I am trying to decide if I try and redo them or just create with what I have left.
I also mentioned the name of my universe in a silly smutty book and used one of my characters, and I used the name of one of my worlds and part of its magic system in another smutty book. So I now have 4 books out there stealing aspects of TMOK, and I have the choice of unpublishing them or writing around them, or just leaving them up and creating TMOK the way it should be and let my earlier mistakes stand. I don't know what I'm going to do yet.
I've had to change vocabulary a few times due to publishing-fuckups, and I'm mostly happy with the new language, although I still miss some of the old worlds and concepts. It really sucks when you can't make up your mind about anything and then you keep sabotaging yourself. If you have a choice, please don't be like me!!!
But I am not giving up, and if you're struggling with anything publishing related, you shouldn't give up, either!!!

Today I am back to TMOK. Not writing or even world building yet. I first started creating TMOK back in 2008 That's a very interesting history I have the choice of unpublishing them or writing around them, or just leaving them up and creating TMOK the way it should be and let my earlier mistakes stand. I don't know what I'm going to do yet. I'd leave them as they are until you are ready to publish. And then decide. I am trying to decide if I try and redo them or just create with what I have left. Keep everything. Use what fits. I still miss some of the old worlds and concepts. Keep them. Move them into a new project that you might do in the future. It really sucks when you can't make up your mind about anything and then you keep sabotaging yourself. If you have a choice, please don't be like me!!! In music it's OK to just keep doing the same thing, slightly differently. True for classical music, jazz, even Taylor Swift. But when it's done it's out there, so the original is never sabotaged, just changed and developed. But look at Tolkien. He started his world in WW1; LotR wasn't published until the mid 1950s. He wrote the Hobbit in the early 1930, but not published until 1937. His translation of Beowulf was completed in 1926, but not published until 2014. He abandoned The Notion Club Papers. LotR & The Hobbit & all the associated stories and histories are full of alternatives and inconsistencies; nothing was ever finished in his mind, it's just that some parts were published. And he would have like to rewrite the Hobbit to make it fit better with LotR. And he produced lots of smaller pieces while he was doing this. Some were eventually published, many weren't until his son got his hands on the papers.

Today I am back to TMOK. Not writing or even world building yet. Reminds me of being in class when I was 10, writing a creative essay. I must have spent half the time drawing a map and the teacher started to come back to me asking whether that was strictly necessary. In my mind it was. I was telling myself stories as I was drawing the map and that is what interested me. Telling the sorry for someone else felt tedious and constricting. And there is always that tension. As writers, we strive after an output but internally the story is what absorbs us. And it never finishes, never stays the same. We're just lucky that we have other stories too, so the actual publishing is bearable.

Thanks for the encouragement dormouse I have completed deletion stage one - down from 57,000-ish doc to 2,750. And I didn't lose anything those were just non-story docs, and copies. Did I really need 5,000 copies of one doc? stage 2 is to go through and organize more so that I only have everything once and in its own document so I can see what I have before I start deciding what is actually true and what is distraction. It's a much bigger job than stage one, but I'm a ninja. I still feel kind of panicky, but have to push through it.

On Saturday I finished the novel I've been working on the last couple months. It came out to 109,000 words, so yay! And it's a standalone, so more yay! Taking a break for a few days, then I'll be on to a project lighter in tone than what I've been writing.

Finished the story I’ve been writing the last few weeks. It came out to 47K words, so a short novel.
I’m trying to increase how much I write & fill in time that’s been empty. I’m trying to add a third writing session each day. It went well with this project, but it’s too soon for me to know if I can stick with it. I hope I can.
Getting away from writing for a day or two, then onto the next story!
