Well, I'm not particularly keen on holiday parties, St. Nicholas Day trick or treaters, end of the year tax stress, etc... either, but unfortunately they're difficult to avoid, unless you want to become a hermit and piss off the tax authorities besides. And the St. Nicholas Day kids will ring your doorbell anyway. I got twenty-five kids at my door this year and actually ran out of chocolate. Case in point: This morning I was at the annual holiday party of a local motorbike shop with friends. I'm not a biker, but my friends are and they always invite me along. The party was fun, but it still took up two hours or so. Therefore, I'm happy that I managed to write 1384 words today. I also got the edits on the Hallowind Cove Christmas story done and will input them tomorrow.
Coincidentally, I actually bought a physical example of a holiday pastry that plays an important role in the Hallowind Cove Christmas story, a so-called "Stutenkerl" (dough dude), since writing the story made me crave one. Here he is, in the middle of the picture:

Good job on new words and finishing your editing even though you were busy and out partying. I've never heard of St. Nicholas Day trick or treating before. Is this something they do in Germany instead of Halloween? Or do kids there get to go door-to-door begging for candy twice a year? The dough dude is cute. *teehee* I am a hermit and have no meatspace friends so I don't have to worry about stuff like that. And where we live we don't even get kids knocking on Halloween.

We used to have trick or treating only on St. Nicholas Day in my region, while other regions had other days. Martinsmas (November 11) is the traditional trick or treating day in some parts of Germany. In other regions it's Epiphany Day (January 6), where the kids dress up as the Three Wise Men, bless homes and collect money for charity as well as candy for themselves.
Halloween only came in approx. 10 years ago, brought in by folks who'd been to the US as well as via movies and TV shows. At first, it hit college campuses where there were Halloween parties at least as far back as the 1990s. Then the costume, decoration and candy industries caught on and started offering the respective products. And then kids started to go trick or treating on Halloween as well, though there still are many older folks who don't like it and complain about this newfangled American holiday (which is actually Irish). The Lutheran church also dislikes Halloween, because for Lutherans October 31 is Reformation Day, disregarding that Halloween is a lot older than Reformation Day.
I get kids at my door on both Halloween and St. Nicholas Day, though there are more kids on St. Nicholas Day.
Back to writing, I wrote 1172 new words today and sent the Hallowind Cove Christmas story on its way into the world.

Fascinating! I love learning about other countries holidays and cultural events.
Good going on the words!
I created Space Islands and sort of turned a TUOK thing into a kind of Star Trek thing.

Yesterday was busy with publishing stuff (I'm wide, so I have more places to upload to) and all sorts of other crap, but I still managed to write 1018 words.
Today I wrote 1329 words, most of them for a guest post I have to hand in on Friday.

Congrats on publishing and on writing new words! Wow, you write a lot of guest posts. Do you think they help with sales?
I wrote around 4,700 words today. So that feels pretty good.

You’re doing great, K'Sennia Visitor! And Cora is as reliable as ever! I’ve made a new goal for myself: I have to write every day, even if it’s a small amount. I wrote 2,128 words today. I wanted to do 4k but dictation shenanigans put a damper in that plan. Getting back to writing actually felt nice. I did try that 4thewords website everyone on Facebook seems to be raving about, but I only managed to write 90 words using it. Their interface is absolutely awful. I much prefer writing in my iAWriter app.

Great job for getting back on the typewriter prolificwriter! Every word counts. I am writing a brutal self-help book, have 1,482 words on it, so far. I wrote other words on the project from yesterday, too, not sure how many.

Good work, prolificwriter and K'Sennia VisitorAs for the guest posts, I don't write to market, so I have to find the readers that will enjoy what I write. I figure guest posts help to introduce people to my writing and maybe get them to check out my books. And I've certainly heard from people who said they read my blog or followed me on Twitter or read a guest post or comment somewhere and decided to check out my books. Talking of which, I wrote 1647 words today and finished my latest guest post. I also sold a poem to a magazine.

Congrats on publishing two books, K'Sennia Visitor And besides, the time right now is perfect for Christmas stories. I was at the Christmas market with some translator colleagues today and didn't write as much as I'd hoped, because the mulled wine really packs a punch. But I managed 1105 words.

prolificwriter, yep. The Disabled Frog and The Christmas Funeral. The Disabled Frog came about after a conversation with a friend about trying to help people who didn't want it/weren't ready for it. I wrote up a silly little story, then he says, send me a link when you publish. But it wasn't long enough for a book, so I had to write one. Thanks for the blurb comment. I rather liked it, too! The Christmas Funeral came from this one weird sentence that popped into my head like five years ago that I never did anything with. I need to create a Ksennia author page, today. I have 4 other author pages, so why not one more? corabuhlert, yep xmas is the perfect time for xmas stories. I am really surprised how speedy amazon and even parts of D2D are being. I thought they'd be swamped. Glad you enjoyed some quality time with friends and wine, and you still got in 1100 words!

Yes, when I published The Bakery on Gloomland Street, B&N, Scribd, Playster, Tolino and even Apple were quick to get it up. Only 24 symbols is dragging its feet, as usual. There actually was at least one funeral on Christmas Eve that I remember BTW. It was an elderly neighbour of my parents. I found the timing of the funeral really awful, because most people really have better things to do on Christmas Eve of all days than attend a funeral. My parents actually attended, but I didn't.
Turns out that the guest post I wrote got me an interview on a podcast.
I also wrote 1621 words and did the edits on the next Hallowind Cove story, which has been lying around finished but unpublished for a couple of months now. I hope to get this one out before the holidays as well.

Congrats corabuhlert on the podcast interview and all the action taking. Yeah, I can't imagine most people want to attend a funeral at this time of the year, or any time, really. But because stupid society forces everyone to celebrate this time of year, I can see it bumming a lot of people out. I am a rebel though, so I refuse to celebrate. Good job on the new words prolificwriter! I didn't accomplish anything yesterday. I'll try again today.

Congrats on the word, prolificwriterRegarding the funeral, I feel they could just have rescheduled it for after the holidays, because having it on Christmas Eve, which is the main event in Germany, is just rude IMO. But apparently, leaving a corpse above ground over the Christmas holidays is inconceivable, because... - Well, I don't know. It's a corpse and we have refrigerated morgues, so I don't see why it won't keep until after the holidays. I also didn't like the deceased either and was actually scared of him as a kid, so I didn't feel at all guilty for not attending. I forgot to post yesterday, but I wrote 1030 words. Today, I wrote 1088 words. Plus, I published two more Hallowind Cove stories, one yesterday and one today.

Terrific job on the words, both of you!!!
@corabhulhert Yeah, unless they belonged to a faith/culture that requires burial within a certain amount of time, waiting until after xmas would have been nice, if they wanted other people to attend.
I've been enjoying other people's writing to try and get a better understanding of sci-fi concepts. So no writing of my own, except for bits of worldbuilding notes. Halo has some pretty fascinating ideas.

Reading is always good, K'Sennia Visitor, because we sometimes have to take a look at what others are doing. No rapid burial requirements, these folks are/were Lutheran Protestants. Though there are local superstitions that it's bad to leave a corpse above ground over a holiday period or the weekend, probably dating from a time before refrigeration, when corpses started to smell. I wrote 1896 words today and also did a lot of administrative stuff like updating links, scheduling posts for the Speculative Fiction Showcase and the Indie Crime Scene, etc...

You are so faithful with all the words and the other organizational stuff!
Superstitions are fun to study when they aren't inconveniencing everyone at xmas.
Last night was one of my "let's delete everything" phases, so I've spent all day, today, running recuva. Recuva sucks, but it's the best free recovery software out there, so 'tis what 'tis. The worst part is that in my anxiety fit I deleted my Babylon 5 Master File and my Star Wars Master File, and my Doctor Whos. I'm most upset about Babylon 5 though. I own all the dvds and paperbacks of all the books, so I can't lose the hard copies, and I can rerip everything. But it's a huge pain. Of course I knew that before I deleted it all. Didn't stop me. (shakes head)
In other news, had to rescue this adorable little chameleon from Patches. It was soooo cute. If we were Facebook friends I would link to my pics of him. But I've got my account set to friends only.

I thankfully manage to resist the temptation to delete everything, because you often wind up deleting things you want to keep.
I also went holiday food shopping today - the sort of things which will keep, so I don't have to bother with them closer to the holidays - and wrote 1301 words, mostly on a review of an Andre Norton book that I have to hand in after the holidays.

Good for you on resisting temptation and for buying food, and writing a review. I love Andre Norton!!!
I ended up deciding that the deletions were for the best because I need to focus on my writing and publishing, and none of those other things were helping. And I got an idea for my next book while out doing my own food shopping. So hopefully my next post in here will have a word count!
