When I read this description, I always imagine someone with those full, perfect lips kinda like Tom Hardy has. But are those really "sensual" lips? It's such a vague term that really doesn't describe anything. Maybe that's the point. I'm not sure I should use that term, or go into more detail.

Hmm great question, DD! To me I only associate them with women and I see full, red lips just begging to be kissed, in my head. But that's just me. I think sensual is a great word. To me it's simply a more elegant way of saying sexy. If some part of somebody else makes you want to jump their bones or seems to be asking for their bones to be jumped, then it's sensual. So a sensual look would be a "come hither" look.

I think of it as figurative, it doesn't literally describe anything. It connotes a feeling -- lips you want to sense (i.e. by kissing them).

I agree that "sensual" is subjective, so it can evoke slightly different images for each reader, but I think it's a good descriptor in most romantic/erotic stories. I also agree that Tom Hardy's lips are the perfect example of a "sensual mouth." 😉

As for Tom Hardy's lips...lord have mercy

It just means sexy to me. People also used to talk about Jonathan Rhys Meyers having a sensual mouth. Very pillowy. I had a specific look for one of my fantasy heroes, and when I saw Meyers haloed with sunlight in Bend it Like Beckham, I just about fell off the couch. I told my young kids that that was who my hero was supposed to favor. They didn't care.

Lovely mouth, and those eyes are something else, too.
