Once upon a time there was a unicorn called Eugene. Eugene lived under a Ping Pong table at the Mt Olympus Athletic Club, where they would snoozle peacefully during the noisy, crowded daytime; because they were invisible no persons ever bothered them. At night when Mt Olympus shut down, Eugene would crawl out from under the table. Streeeeeeetch their crampled muscles, yaaaaaawn, then lumber around until they made their way to the snack bar where they would help themself to a grape popsicle. Eugene loved popsicles, and grape was their favorite flavor. Once they held one in each hoof, and one in their mouth, they would hobble carefully over to the unicyle floor, hop on top of one and pedal blissfully whilst sucking on their grapsicles.
Eugene did this every night, and it usually made them very happy, however, one day they couldn't sleep, so they sat up and watched some of the ping pong players. One of them was wearing a long, blue, flowery dress. Eugene was fascinated by this dress. It was so beautiful, they thought, and it would make them look ever so handsome. Eugene coveted that dress. Unfortunately, they couldn't find any copies of that dress anywhere at Mt Olympus. Eugene wanted that dress so bad, but they didn't know where to find it. They felt so sad and depressed. But then then one day, the person wearing the pretty blue dress came back, and Eugene decided to be bold and brave. So they climbed out from under the table and shook themself three times to release the glamor spell that all unicorns use to make themselves invisible.
"Excuse me, Sir," Eugene said politely. "But I love your dress. It's so pretty. Where could I get one for my very own?"
The person blinked several times and rubbed their eyes to be sure they were seeing what they thought they were seeing. Then they reached out a long, slender, bejeweled hand and and gently petted Eugene on the horn. When the person was satisfied what they were seeing was real, they said, "thank you for the compliment, Sir. Unicorn. My name is Sasha, and I got this dress at the Mt Olympus Dress shop. I can take you there if you'd like?"
"Thank you, Sir. Sasha," Eugene said. "That would be quite lovely of you."
And so Sasha led Eugene out of the athletic club and down the shiny, black pavement, past many other glistening white buildings until they came to one that said, dress shop. Sasha opened the door for Eugene, who said, "thank you," and then they followed Sasha into the store. Inside the store Eugene saw hundreds of soft, pretty dresses hanging on hangers all over the room. They saw blue dresses, and red dresses, and pink dresses, and white dresses, and black dresses, and polka dot dresses, and zebra print dresses. They saw so many dresses, and they were all lovely, however, Eugene had their heart set on the pretty blue dress with the white flowers and they kept looking until they found it.
A salesperson came over and asked, "hello, how may I help you?"
And Eugene pointed a fat hoof up at the blue dress and they said, "do you have that one in my size, please?"
The salesperson said, "Eh, I'm not sure. We've never had a unicorn customer before. Let me call our tailor."
So Belinda the tailor came out and they said, "why, yes, of course I can alter this dress to fit you perfectly, Sir. Unicorn. I would be honored to do so."
"Thank you, Sir. Belinda," Eugene said, "I would appreciate it very much."
And so Belinda took down the dress, slid it down over Eugene's head, grabbed some tape measures and push pins and set to work. Once they had a pattern set, they pulled the dress off Eugene and took it in back to the sewing room. Eugene heard "schzrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" and then Belinda came back out with a new dress in Eugene's perfect size. Eugene looked ravishing in it, as they nodded approvingly at themself in the mirror.
After Eugene's little adventure, they still lived under a Ping Pong table at the Mt Olympus Athletic Club. They still snoozled during the day while most of the club's personages exercised blissfully unawares. And at night, Eugene still got up, got themself five grape popsicles, hopped on a unicycle, and pedaled away. Only now they did it all wearing a beautiful blue dress, and they felt very happy.
The End
