Wayne Stinnett said on Kboards that he typically writes 13 hours a day, about 5 on weekends which adds up to about 75 hours per week. o/O Though he does give himself 7 weeks vacation spread throughout the year. I read that and my mouth dropped open, and I thought, "wow, if I did that I might actually accomplish something." I'm not sure my brain would work for that long though. But still, any hours per week over 0 will at least get me closer. Basically his post semi-inspired and semi-terrified me and the monkeys, who frantically started trying to switch my head channel away from serious writing.

For me, 3 sessions a day, about an hour per, and I’m leaning towards just M-F. That said, my session goal has always been to write 4 pages (about 1K words). I’ve tried to write much more in a day, but I’ve always burned myself out doing that. I’d rather have a steady pace than be productive in spurts, but that’s just me.

When I first started out, in the honeymoon phase of enthusiasm, I was writing about 4 hours a day after work, very close-the-door-and-hit-it-hard, 3-5K per day. Basically work, eat dinner with the family, write, sleep, repeat. On Saturday or Sunday I'd often do 8 hours and 8-10K. Then one of those days I'd take off, or at least mostly. Did that for about 2 years, wrote 14 books. I thought that was crazy fast until I heard about some people like Wayne and Amanda. It did get my career launched, for sure.
Now I write 2-4 hours a day, for a 1K-3K word count per day, 5 days a week, which works out to 10K a week pretty steady, writing 3-4 books per year.

But did he say how many words he produced during those hours?
Right now I’m producing 25,000+ words per week, with less than 14 hours of actual writing time.

prolificwriter I don't think he did mention his word count. I imagine it would be higher for someone who dictated than someone who typed, and if you're a "just write" type of writer, or an "edit as you go" type of writer. 25,000 per week is great! davidvandyke, 10k words a week is pretty decent. And ensures you still have time for a life outside of writing. robertlcollins I had a goal to write a 1,000 words a day back when I was writing Mind Splitter. It's a decent starting goal. I tend to burn out quickly, too. I can write 5k in a day if I do nothing else but write, but I can't do that very often. 1k a day is much easier to maintain.

I don't judge my writing by time. I go by chapters so I have no idea how long I take during each session. I know an hour flies by so I guess I'll say I write over an hour or maybe two each session. Altogether I would guess I probably write 4 - 6 hours a day. I usually write when I first get up and then I take breaks, writing off and on throughout the day and I wrap up at around 9 PM. I write around five or six chapters a day. Currently I am rewriting a book so it's going much slower. It's harder to rewrite than it is doing something new so I can take all day doing a rewrite and only finish 3 chapters if that. I don't set word count goals or anything. I don't see the need to do that because I naturally write fast anyway and plus I just release books when I am done. I am not under any pressure to rush or anything. I am at a point now where I can space out my releases. I have over 50 titles so I don't have to release books continually. I usually take a few months in between releases and have the books on preorder to get buzz. I'm wide too, which is great because it allows you to take your time unlike that hamster wheel you gotta keep chasing in KU. I can breathe. LOL! I see authors in KU killing themselves to fart out a book a week. No thanks.

50 books, nice! I like the way you write, nice and easy, no pressure. I finally started writing again last week. Just shorts. I have published 3 shorts this week, (Sunday to Sunday) and I'm 4,000 words into my next short. The way I've discovered that I'm writing right now is that I totally pants it, and I write a little bit, list my word counts in my Facebook group, then go read forums for a bit, then go back and write some more. I don't give myself word limits or deadlines. It's much more fun this way. Also I have 38 published books. And I have been putting all my smutty shorts (2, so far ) into KU. I never used to do KU except for on books that never sold anything. But since it's been two years since I've published anything new on this pen name it's a lot like starting over, and I am kind of addicted to Book Report, and I really needed to hear kachings. So far on my Fucktoy book KU has given me almost 2 whole extra estimated dollars. *teehee* But it's been really fun watching the pennies rise throughout the day and getting to hear lots of kachings when without KU I'd hear none since no sales, today. So I'm happy. I just hit publish on the second smutty book, hasn't been accepted yet, so we'll see what happens with it. I don't judge my writing by time. I just finished a new short. 6,598 words. I like tracking my words by writing them down in my Facebook group, every time I take a break. It took me 9 hours to write those words. I didn't spend every minute of those 9 hours writing. I took lots of breaks, ate dinner, took walks around my house, etc. I don't know if that's good or bad. It's just how long it takes me. I don't write every day. I am trying to do at least one short a week. So maybe my weekly writing time is 9 hours per week?
Anywho, I'm just happy to be writing at all.
