I actually thought that Amazon had deleted all of the erotica subcategories since the last few books I've uploaded have only given me one single box for erotica with no dropdown menu. And I'm not really good about doing my research. But apparently they still exist, and you just have to keyword into them. Here is the list. (https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G201467410)

Most of these are keywords we would use anyway to help readers find our books, although I would have never thought to use rubenesque.

At the very least it's good to see what all the categories are. There really should be a lot more because there are a shitload more kinks out there. Oh well. We deals with what we gots.

The erotic poetry category surprised me. Wonder how popular it is?

Depends what you consider a dead zone. I'm still steadily earning $20 a month on 10 books in one kink and haven't published a new short since 2017. I do know that in the past smutty shorts writers could easily earn thousands of dollars by publishing hundreds of shorts. Of course, this was back in KU1 when shorts were really profitable. If you go to reddit all the erotica authors are still in KU, but making pennies. Everyone there says to write romance novels, that's where the money is now, and they only suggest shorts for newbies who have never written anything before.

So you've got the major KU loss, plus now visibility is really tough because of all the new ads. Erotica writers never had to advertise. We got found via search, but now with ads everywhere, it's much harder to be found via search. Even when someone purposely looks for your smut they are going to be assaulted with ads from the rich romance authors and they are less likely to find you.

I think if you write hard kink you will still be found because romance can't scratch that itch but for everyone writing the more vanilla normal erotica...yeah, they've got a fuckton of competition.
