Hey, everyone.
I’m starting a small proofreading business. It will sit alongside my writing and, for now, my regular part-time job. Initially, I will be quite limited by time constraints as to how much work I can take on.
Difficult to be sure until I start carrying out the work, but I estimate that I can turn around a 50,000-word manuscript within two weeks. I realise that’s not particularly fast, but I’d prefer to underestimate at this stage and make sure I give myself enough time to be able to carry out a thorough job.
For details of my credentials, cost, etc, please visit the new section of my website, here: link
You’ll see that I will require a sample to proofread (at no charge). This is not only to benefit the author, but so that I can turn down manuscripts that I feel require more substantial editing. This service is aimed at authors who are otherwise ready to publish their work; it’s not for early drafts.
If you’re interested, please complete the contact form on the website and submit it with the sample of your manuscript.

I've brought in a reduced introductory rate. I realise it might have been better to have done this from the outset but, like most new businesses, I'm feeling my way a little.

I'm calling this a proofreading service, but inevitably there will be an element of copy-editing involved because if I notice, say, a structurally incorrect sentence, I don't have it in me to ignore it and will offer suggestions as to how to put it right.
For a free sample edit, complete the contact form on my website - link in OP.

We struggling authors need peeps like you samkates , thank you for your service.
Hi, K'Sennia
I know what it's like to be a struggling author - I'm one, too. But I go against the advice that says an author should never edit his or her own work. I do all my own editing and have an eye for spotting mistakes. Thought I might as well put that to good use in helping others - if, at the same time, it helps me to escape the tedium of the part-time office job I have to do to pay the bills, then so much the better.
I enjoy helping other writers to improve their manuscripts - it carries a great deal of job satisfaction. Having done many jobs over the years that I've hated, the value of job satisfaction should never be underestimated.

The holiday period will be upon us before we know it. If you're looking to publish before Christmas or early New Year, and require a proofreader, I can probably help you meet your deadline, depending of course on length of manuscript and how quickly you engage me.

I've changed the title of this thread to include the word 'augmented' because it more accurately describes what I do. It's more than a straight proofread because I will make suggestions for correcting run-on sentences, for example, and correcting inconsistencies in spelling and punctuation, not merely errors.
The discounted rate applies to all jobs booked before 1st April.

Proofreading, copyediting and a smattering of line editing (because if I notice a sentence that, though technically correct, makes me stumble, I'll offer suggestions how to improve it) all rolled into one at a competitive rate.
Availability from mid-April.
