I have a couple of Wordsworth classics, but their covers are not nearly so terrible. Mostly they used historical paintings and such.

I went through an unabridged classic phase as a teenager. I liked collecting old children's books the best, and I liked most of the covers I saw. I have this beautiful unabridged version of Heidi with some of the best illustrations I've ever seen in a children's book.

K'Sennia Visitor Yes, I wondered about some of the English language Heidi translations, because Heidi is a fairly big book and those translated edition always seemed so short. Even if texts get shorter when translated from German into English, that discrepancy was a little much. But yeah, if many editions are abridged, that makes sense.

They abridge everything over here so they can sell more editions. If it's an old work or public domain if it doesn't say unabridged on the cover then it likely is not intact. This translation is part of "The Whole Story" series. It actually doesn't say "unabridged" on it. But it comes with interesting background info to help you understand the story, and in the back it says Heidi was originally published in two volumes. This book has 202 pages. It's definitely my favorite edition, either way. Applewood classics also does beautiful recreations of original serials from the 1930s era, like Nancy Drew and Judy Bolton. I haven't collected books in years because we've moved so often and I still have boxes locked away in a container left unguarded on an empty lot. Plus, I got older and it was no longer practical to spend every cent I had on books. I do miss those days though. *sigh* As far as writing. I have written forum posts, and did some creative work on TUOK, after being blanked for a while, so that feels good and I'm counting it.
