So I was trying to be all laissez faire about the bords, but maybe it would be a good idea to be laissez faire on the off topic board and restrict this one to just writing stuff? If we decided that then I would move the Kboards cattle prod thread and maybe a few others over there. We already have one vote for moving! What says the rest of you? Other options are to rename the off topic forum the 'Any Topic" forum, and then have a new restriced forum for just writing, and if you wanted to discuss politics or religion in writing, you would go to any topic. Which is probably what this board is right now, anyway. paranormalkitty brought up a great point about how we define what is political?

As much as I enjoy discussing politics, I do agree that there should be separate forums for separate subjects, and that threads that go off topic should be split off or moved.

I went ahead and moved the threads to "Any Topic", but this action can easily be undone if there is an outcry of opposition.

I agree with that choice. While I sometimes like to discuss politics, other times it's too stressful and I want to avoid it like the plague.

I'd prefer it to not be restricted because that makes it harder to move around in the forum. Also, I'm a person who doesn't stay on topic--that's just me--so would I have to start doing that? I know the cattle prod thread got hotly political, but it was actually the "what I don't like about KBoards" thread in the beginning. Any thread on any topic might get derailed that way. My idea is keep the threads together, but mark the ones that anyone complains about somehow with a warning - for example, a skull and crossbones. Then some people can avoid it. Others might be more interested, of course. It looks like I might be a minority vote on this, however. Anyway, I hope this forum stays alive despite the recent I-don't-know-what-to-call-it. I like Timothy, but I never felt entirely comfortable on KBoards, and his forum feels like KBoards v2 to me. I think a lot of people who came here, including me but not everyone, came here because we were KBoards misfits. So even if we don't agree on a lot of things, we do have some shared common ground. I'd also like to say that I really enjoyed reading some of the philosophical and intellectual posts where people talked about good and evil, wrong and right, and all kinds of other things without attacking any people or groups of people personally. And I hope those people will write posts like that again, even though there's always going to be disagreement and some hot-headedness online, I guess. And thanks K'Seinna for all your great work on this forum!

beaker its not really going off topic that was the issue. It's basically just the political stuff that peeps were objecting to. That one thread got really off in "I don't want to live in this world anymore" territory, and so that definitely doesn't belong in here. All that depressing stuff is much better off in Any Topic. But normal off topic stuff inside a thread should be fine. I am super lazy, so you know I won't be micromanaging anyone. If people start complaining about a topic then I'll either move the thread or try and move the posts to a new thread, but I think peeps around here are pretty cool and don't get bothered by too much. So you should be fine.
