On a forum for forum admins (there really is a forum for everything ) I found this thread where people talk about their experience with verticalscope, the company that bought out kboards. It's 10 pages long, so be warned. I've only just started reading it myself, when I thought it might be interesting to post. theadminzone.com/threads/verticalscope.39544/

Very telling, especially the former Vertical Scope employee who constantly defends the company, calls for banning "troublemakers", complains about competing fora poaching members and calls them bottom feeders. And he uses sexist language, too.
Nice people that KBoards sold out to. Apparently, they used to buy up car, sports and motorbike fora as if they were going out of style. Knowing a few bikers, it's obvious that they wouldn't stand for that sort of thing.

I predicted the buy out wouldn't be good for us, and it sadly seems I was right. People have already complained about the ads there now, and their new TOS seems to be an outright grab for rights to stuff they really don't need to be worrying about. I figure they're selling our data as fast as it comes in, and hope that my email filters keep working. The robo calls on the phone are bad enough, I don't need my inbox flooded, too.

I hadn't seen that thread.
I noticed the frequent old forum member logic that no-one could be as stupid and counter-productive as VS admins appear to be, so there must be a deliberate strategy to drive acquired forums into extinction.
