Only 1589 words today. I was on track for more, but I got derailed by a broken furnace and having to drive 130 kilometres and back to procure a specific spare part or wait two days longer to have it repaired.

I'm sorry your furnace broke. I imagine it's cold at your house in the winter, so not something you could ignore. You didn't let that get in the way though, and you still wrote new words. You are a star. Hopefully a toasty warm star! *imagine an adorable star with a smile wrapped up in a fluffy, blue blanket* I woke up feeling hopeless and depressed this morning, fallout out from panic attacks the day before. I managed two days of TUOK planning before it hit though. I am still very confused about things. But I'm having little flits of inspiration. I did come up with this: The Psi Scale psi-0 - psi resistant psi-1 - receiving psi-2 - leaking psi-3 - reading psi-4 - blocking psi-5 - shielding psi-6 - slipping psi-7 - breaking psi-8 - planting psi-9 - erasing psi-10 - moving psi-11 - removing

Hurray for more worldbuilding.
The furnace is working again and the house is warming up. Luckily, it failed when it wasn't too cold. And I wrote 1477 words, too.

Good work, Cora Faithful!!!!
We have missionaries staying here for the week from Germany. He's American military who married a German national, he took over a church there, and then ended up starting one of his own. I haven't talked to them cos I don't talk to people. I don't remember the city he said they were in. But it's a very international one.

It probably would have to be a bigger city, since the only churches you see in smaller towns are Lutheran and Catholic churches, depending upon the region.
I wrote 2201, most of them for a short story called "Rice Bowl". It's for a collection of short crime stories I plan to call "The Culinary Assassin" about an assassin who kills his or her (the gender is ambiguous) targets in restaurants. This is the second Culinary Assassin story to date. I'm planning at least one more.

But it wasn't about a murder that happened inside a restaurant. Although there are the culinary detective mysteries.

I actually remember that Camille Leguire title, though I haven't seen her around in a while now.
The Culinary Assassin is something of the opposite of the culinary detective, though most of the culinary mysteries seem to be cozies about cupcake bakers and the like. There are grittier culinary mysteries in Europe, featuring wine critics, restaurant critics and the like solving murders.
I forgot to post yesterday, though I did write 1020 words. Today, I wrote 1715 words and finished another culinary assassin story called "Red Sauce". I have more ideas, so I'll hold off publishing the collection for a while longer. Besides, the culinary assassin stories are short. And besides, I like writing about food and I like writing mysteries and crime fiction, so these are perfect for me.

Yeah, I miss Camille. I always enjoyed her mystery posts. I imagine that a culinary assassin would be the natural enemy of the culinary detective. Fun series though. Every ace detective needs their equal rival. I used to watch Law & Order: Criminal Intent and I could not stand Detective Goren until Nicole Wallace showed up, and suddenly I was fascinated by both of them.
I used to be extremely into all of the detective shows in my late teens/early twenties, then I discovered sci-fi, and I started having trouble caring about anything that didn't involve aliens. Although, I've always carried an interest in crime stories. My brain has difficulty writing them.
I have a sort of detective/thriller idea where a woman is given a list and told she has to murder the 7 people on it or else the world will end.

Science fiction is my first love, but I like mystery/crime fiction as well. Besides, mystery/crime fiction is the most popular genre in Germany and has an active short fiction market, so I started writing crime stories just like in the magazines, only to realise that there was very little in the way of a market for short mysteries in English. I still write short mysteries, though, when an idea strikes me.
Your idea about the woman and the people she has to murder sounds great BTW. Lots of possibilities with that one.
I'm back to space opera for the moment and wrote 1318 words today.

Odd isn't it, since the English genre largely started with short fiction? Down to the demise of the magazines in which they were presumably originally published? I know that The Strand magazine published many of the famous ones (Father Brown, Sherlock Holmes, Poirot etc). Maybe it evolved differently in Germany.

Most fiction magazines in the English speaking world died off except for science fiction and fantasy magazines.
Meanwhile in Germany, general interest magazines like gossip mags, TV listings mags, women's mags, etc... inevitably contained a short mystery and sometimes also a "complete novel" (more like a novelette, actually) which was usually romance of some kind. These fiction pieces in general interest magazines are no longer as ubiquitous as they once were, but there are still plenty of them around and someone has to write them.
And while we're on the subject of writing, I wrote 1125 words today.

I guess the closest thing we have here is the super short 100 word mysteries that pop up in this women's magazine, and the short stories in readers digest. You can still get nonfiction articles published in magazines, but I don't think very many even do short stories.
Hurrah on the new words!

Meanwhile in Germany, general interest magazines like gossip mags, TV listings mags, women's mags, etc... inevitably contained a short mystery and sometimes also a "complete novel" (more like a novelette, actually) which was usually romance of some kind. General interest mags often had a bit of fiction, at least until recently (I haven't kept up), women's mags definitely and, at one time, the men's mags (Playboy et al) were the peak target for literary shorts. The major problem with all of them is the massive decline in sales. I'm afraid it's made me think a bit about whether there is an opportunity in the market. Magazines are quite comforting, readers know what to expect even if the content is continuously changing it always feels the same. Would have to be an e-magazine (else costs are too high and inflexible). Monthly would work best. Would have to be cheaply run, relying on paying nothing to authors (though that could change if it ever became profitable). Would have to be free to readers too. Biggest expense would be editing, management, production and marketing. No way out of those. Advertising unlikely to be worthwhile until 1 year +. I doubt if it would break even until 5 years +, so quite a lot of money would need to be invested. No guarantee that there really is a market. Digital magazines aren't very popular. Couldn't stop myself having a quick look at competition. The few I looked at didn't impress me (but that's hardly surprising if there isn't really a profitable market). I'm sure I will look further at some point over the next few months. Even though I don't want to publish a magazine and I certainly don't want to spend time organising or editing a magazine of any description (I do have previous experience). Even though I don't want to set up a new business, I just find it fun to work up a business plan. Although I don't really believe it will be viable, I'll do a bit more due diligence before I give up.

I sometimes toy with the idea of publishing an e-version of those melodramatic confessions magazines. It seems like a fun project and I'll probably do it sometime, once I get over my backlog of finished, but unedited and unpublished stories.
Writingwise, I wrote a good 1817 words today and started another Culinary Assassin story.

I have written words here, but mostly I've been reading star wars forums, watching yt vids on the heroes and heroines journey, and thinking about TUOK. I have waaaaaaaaaaaay too much info which wraps around my computer like a jungle trap, and so I get overwhelmed and confused. Plus hexabies.
But I keep trying every day, and today was another day where I tried.
