I know they can remove books from your kindle, although, I think they learned their lesson back in 2009, and so they may not do it anymore. But I was just wondering if they have access to the app data on our computers too? I wouldn't think so, but I don't know. Hence the asking. Perhaps as long as we keep the books inside the kindle folder they can delete them, if they choose? What says you? ETA: I found a Michael Scott Earle book in my library, today. Destroyer. I obviously never read it, but if that book is still there that seems to suggest amazon are not removing books we've bought anymore. Good on them! I found a Faleena Hopkins book, too.

Awesome info, thank you. As you can tell I have no idea how computers work. By magic, I assume. Maybe tiny little electric eels who have passed the magician's examination.

I don't think so. I often download to transfer via USB, and all those books are still there. I'm not sure about something done through the Kindle for PC app, though. They probably have a backdoor for that.

As others have said, no, they can't remove from your personal computer. But if they chose to, as soon as you open one of those books with your Kindle/Kindle app, they could if the whispersync was enabled.

Luckily, I read everything in Calibre! Pretty much, anyway. Sometimes I'll read on ipod. But after downloading all 1600 books I had left, I deleted the kindle app entirely from my PC.

I tend to use Calibre to make other formats of the book, so I can read it on whatever device. I like pdfs on my computer, my kindle uses mobis and azws, ebups for my nook, and my phone can read either epubs or mobis. So even if Zon zaps the mobis and azws, I've probably got an epub and pdf floating around somewhere.
