I'm reading a book right now called "How I Sold 80,000 Books" by Alinka Rutkowska, it's a permafree on amazon. www.amazon.com/HOW-SOLD-000-BOOKS-Publishing-ebook/dp/B00WWUR1O4/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= And while I was reading this link came up to a webpage that purports to help you sell your DTB books to airport bookstores and supermarkets and stuff. She also started a service called librarybub that is supposed to help you get your books into libraries.
It's a good read so far, lots of marketing advice I've heard before, plus some new stuff. She mentions selling books on your site for cheaper than in retail, but she didn't specify whether she meant paper or ebook. Amazon doesn't allow you to sell ebooks for cheaper than they do, but I don't believe there are restrictions with paper books.
And I'm not sure about linking to other authors books at the back of your book because I think amazon might see that as trying to manipulate your alsobots. But then going and buying your book followed by other authors books whose alsobots you want to appear in would do that, as well, if it worked. (She doesn't actually recommend this, but I've seen it in other writing books, and it reminded me.) Of course with AMS ads jampacked in I'm not sure if alsobots are even relevant anymore? I would leave the recommending other authors books to your website though.
She also recommends using both Ingram Spark and Baker and Taylor for your DTB books. I'm not sure I've ever heard any reviews for B&T, so that was interesting. And then the rest of her marketing stuff is the normal shit your hear. But I thought the sellingtoairports link was cool and wanted to share.

She also says she sells her books on cruise ships! She says to use LinkedIn to find the contact deets for whomever you would need to ask to sell your books through them. It helps if your books have a connection to the sea. I never would have thought of that! She has good advice on selling your books to independent bookstores, too.
Oh and after reading this book with a blank page in between each chapter I've decided I don't like it and I'm not going to do it anymore. I'll just use chapter separators instead.
She runs an annual book award contest on her website/private forum. As well as offering paid editorial reviews. Everything is a bit too shiny for me, so even if I had money for stuff like that I personally wouldn't want to get involved, but so far nothing has jumped out at me that is legitimately scammy or anything. But I also haven't looked into it too closely. Perhaps someone with more experience will wander by and jump in to proclaim their virtue or danger.

One weird thing about her book is that she keeps pimping her services and saying how much she loves using them, and acting like they have no connection with her at all, even though she lists them in her author bio. Maybe she doesn't think anyone reads those? If you use her editorial reviews service you can buy the 5 fast reviews package and if at least one of them is a five star they'll give you a 5 star sticker that you can stick on your book cover. But she does use all of her editorial reviews in the right place, and she includes them in her front matter. I can't decide if I think those type of reviews help or hurt, but at least she isn't telling you to buy fake customer reviews.
I started getting bored/impatient around page 75 so quit. It's not the book's fault just my low attention span and I'm getting TUOK pangs.
