I don't believe this is a separate issue from the terminated accounts. In fact, I am fairly certain this is happening because of the bad acts perpetuated by the terminated accounts. These are just one off's and they'll give the review privileges back with a letter. This is a full on sweep of any reader they have tied to the rank manipulation the terminated accounts were actively engaging in.

This subreddit may be of interest. It lists daily purges of the top 10k reviewers. www.reddit.com/r/TheGreatAmazonPurge/Apparently, it's been going on for quite a while. This is the first I'm hearing of it though. Thanks Guesty for posting about it. It does seem awfully coincidental that the two things are happening at the same time. Perhaps there was some collusion going on? I know all the writing books tell authors to go after these reviewers. Maybe some of them started adding in special incentives or something. This is total speculation on my part, since I'm new to the issue.

These are all readers who seem to have some ties with some of the authors who are no longer allowed to publish books on Amazon. It's serious enough for me, that I am considering sending out a newsletter letting readers know that if an author offers them any reward for buying, reviewing, or flipping through a book from cover to cover, they could be putting their own reader account at risk. The email they got from Amazon is pretty much, "yeah, you're a cheater, cheater, pumpkin eater and we don't want you in our pumpkin patch anymore."

I don't know what's going on with these, but glad if action is being taken to deal with worthless reviewers. I have found that it's necessary, even on Goodreads, to check on previous reviews and a reviewer's average rating to have an idea of whether a review is worth reading. I think they should include their average rating with their name, though that would probably just lead to more useless gaming, so probably not.
PS I have no problem with reviewers who say nothing worthwhile in their reviews. That's easy to see.

So is the Great Amazon Purge subreddit a completely different issue? I wonder why they are purging reviewers from the top 10,000. Does that include Vine Voices?
(asking for a friend!)

As far as I know and based on who it's hitting, yes. Completely two different things. These are readers who are active reviewers and when they asked Amazon for their reviews to go back up, Amazon said we reviewed your account and there's no way in hell you're getting it back. Here's the email: I honestly don't think very many people are stepping back and looking at the big picture. All the information is out there, but you have to be willing to search and look for it, then you have to remove your preconceptions of what you think it's all about. Start putting the pieces together, making the connections that you'd never think existed, and go from there.

Thank you, Guesty McGuest. I had a problem with a Vine Voice once upon a time, but he seems to be still raring to go. That's very interesting.
