I was reading another kboards thread where they were talking about formatting and, a lot of people said that extra spaces between paragraphs bothers them and they won't buy a book if they see them in the look inside. I like lots of space because it's easier for me to read. I have bad eyes and I always have to make the words bigger to see them. But I'm glad to know now that it's a problem for some readers so I can make sure my mystery book doesn't have them.
I'm not sure now if any of my published books have those spaces. I write with them, but I don't use styles and I use D2D to format, so I assume my books come out with D2D's preferred format. From what I've seen in KDP previewer my books are always really squishy, so I don't think they're getting published with spaces. But I'm going to have to check sometime to see.
What are your reading and formatting preferences?

Block paragraphs don't bother me so long as there aren't any indentations. If there are indentations, then I prefer no line spaces between paragraphs. I like one or the other, but not both at the same time.

I don't mind and don't think there is a right answer. Layout is one of the tools of the writer and I think that the decision ought to be driven by what they are trying to achieve.

What I want to achieve is to not have peeps who hate spaces refuse to buy my book, so I will make sure they aren't there once its published.
I already have a lot of other things against me going in since it will be the first book of a new pen name, and will be a standalone unless it sells some and I get readers asking for another book where the Heroine and hero solve another mystery together. It can't take place on the same island, not after 5 murders and a major conspiracy plot. 'twould be too hard to top that and weird. I think it may also be difficult to market a cozy murder mystery thriller, since it's too murdery and complicated to be a cozy, but not nearly actiony enough to be a thriller.
I really tried to write a nice, uncomplicated cozy mystery but this is the story the plot lord gave to me.
As to the thread topic, I am always fascinated to learn how other people think and see the world. It's fun that there are people who hate extra spaces, people who love them, and peeps who don't care. It's like, why is this a thing for some and not for others? Maybe if I had good vision and still read a lot of dead tree books I would think the spaces looked wrong, too.
Since most of my reading is done on a computer now, I like all the white space I can get. Also I hardly ever read on my phone, the screen is way too tiny for me. So that is probably another reason. The blind perhaps should not be leading the charge on ebook formatting!

No as long as it's not a huge wide space you can drive a truck through. LOL! I saw a book like that on Amazon the other day and while the story seemed promising by the Look Inside, the horrible formatting made me decide not to get it.

I can't read fiction that way at all. It has to be traditional formatting or I can't immerse.

I want indentions and no spaces between paragraphs.
